EN 1090
EN 1090-1:2009 + A1:2011 is a European standard titled “Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures. This standard specifies the requirements for conformity assessment of structural components used in steel and aluminium structures. It covers aspects such as materials, fabrication, welding, inspection, and testing of structural components.

AIBF Timber Frame Specialist

IS 440
IS 440:2009 is a standard issued by NSAI titled “Timber frame dwellings”.
This standard provides specifications for the construction of timber frame dwellings, outlining requirements for materials, performance, and workmanship related to the timber frame structure. It aims to ensure the quality and safety of the timber frame residential buildings, covering aspects such as structural integrity, fire resistance, thermal performance, and moisture management. Compliance with IS 440:2009 helps to uphold standards of quality and safety in timber frame construction practices.
ISO 9001:2015
This International Standard specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization: a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
IGBC
The Irish Green Building Council – IGBC, is a non-profit organisation that was launched in 2011 with organisations and businesses from across the value chain of the built environment, that have one common goal, to accelerate the transformation of the built environment to one that is sustainable through leadership, research, education, and providing policy input to national and local government.
These organisations and businesses include architects, engineers, contractors, universities, professional institutes, NGOs, local authorities, energy companies, leading national and transnational companies.
ITFMA
The Irish Timber Frame Manufacturers Association (ITFMA) is a trade association representing the companies producing and supplying timber frame structures in Ireland. Established to promote the use of timber frame construction, the ITFMA focuses on advancing industry standards, fostering collaboration, and advocating for sustainable building practices. The association provides a platform for members to share expertise, address common challenges, and contribute to the growth of the timber frame sector in Ireland. By promoting best practices and advocating for the benefits of timber frame construction, the ITFMA plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of efficient, eco-friendly, and high-quality building solutions in the country.
PEFC
PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certification ensures that wood and paper products come from sustainably managed forests. When a product carries the PEFC label, it means that the forest management practices, as well as the chain of custody for the wood and paper products, comply with PEFC’s internationally recognized sustainability standards.
PEFC certification involves rigorous requirements for forest management, including criteria related to biodiversity conservation, protection of water resources, and respect for workers’ rights. It also includes criteria for tracking certified material throughout the supply chain, ensuring that certified products can be traced back to sustainably managed forests.
